Good post, good advice.
However, what surprises me is an Aussie living in Switzerland. Great place to visit and give the camera finger a workout, but live!
Yesterday was 32 degrees here in Sydney, I sketched out a few posts in between catching a few waves and enjoying the birdlife on Bungan Beach, (Sydney’s northern beaches) and it is only spring!

A much better lesson to the new bloggers like me. I like the idea of yours to publish all these advice. Because of this many bloggers will save much time and will not do that mistake. One thing I know for sure is blogging is not easy and you need to put effort on it to make it successful. Anyways thanks again for sharing this info.

The several points made that blogging should be about quality and not quantity is well taken. That said, the (in Internet time) old adage that ‘content is king’ is not outmoded – it has just been redefined.

“Content” implies quality. If the blogosphere is flooded with daily posters who have nothing original to say, then they are not creating content, they are creating noise.

I’ve also read / heard about the exact same advice. I’m glad to see that the “blog everyday” advice is considered as a bad one for most.

There isn’t a NEED to blog everyday. That’s just, as usual people writing article with easy to follow tips supposed to bring quick fixes and skyrocket you to success.
If I’ve learned anything by now it’s that there’s no magical recipe. It’s all a mix between hard work, dedication, relationship building, quality content, and a lot more.

That’s some impressive collection of “worst advices” right there. Loved reading through the entire list and the take on those advices by industry veterans.

Blogging is definitely not an easy task. It takes a lot of time to setup your blog and figure out what you’re going to do with it. And once you’ve had that figured out, you then need to concentrate on other aspects such as marketing and advertising (which is boring for most bloggers).

Hi Ashley,

I heard all of these crazy advices, that blogging is easy, that SEO don’t matter anymore just write quality content, and no need to build your email list, yada…yada…

The worst one I’ve heard was someone told me that posting everyday is the best coz that will boost up my page rank. Well, found out later that my readers couldn’t keep up with me. So I dropped this advice pretty quick. I found out that posting once-a-week is more than enough and that my audience increases more. I’m sure what works for me doesn’t work for someone else or vice versa. We all have to experiment what works for us the best.

When it comes to posting I’m more for quality than quantity. Also, the “Content is King” statement no longer is true. “Content with Engagement” is more likely. What is good content if there are no readers and interactions? It’s like a ghost town.

If quality content is publish on a newspaper it might be okay. But not in the blogosphere. Blogging is NOT blogging without the engagement.
