You did a nice job of creating this guide. I agree with Jeannette that doing this would be a bit “brave” for some people but even for those who don’t want to do it alone, it’s to their advantage to understand the process. I know many people who still don’t understand the how hosting and domain registration aren’t the same.

As for BlueHost, I moved my current blog to them about a year and a half ago and I’m planning on moving again. Since the Endurance International Group (EIG) took over, I have been encountering problems with connectivity to my database. Part of the issue is that my site is getting older and it may be outgrowing shared hosting. I do encounter more than my share of plugin conflicts though and one of the vendors for a premium plugin that I license has confirmed that my issues are most like isolated to the server that it’s located on.

I would like to add one thing here and that it’s a good idea to install your WordPress software into a directory. That way, you have one more barrier to someone who is trying to hack into your site. BTW – I picked up that tip when I was new to WordPress. It was in the book “Digging Into WordPress” – which I highly recommend.

Hi there
I recommend Bluehost as that is who I have the most experience with.
All host providers have minor issues, down time etc, but all in all I find Bluehost to be great

I am glad it was clear. That was my intention but it is nice to hear from someone outside!
Hopefully it can help people get onto wordpress with their own hosting.
Of course there are a lot more challenges after that too.

You did make it look easy. I remember it wasn’t so easy for me but I didn’t have a guide like this either. I’m using Hostgator for my host and so far have loved their services. I’ve heard BlueHost is good too. I know some bloggers change hosts a lot but I’ve stayed with mine for years now. Thanks for sharing!

The intial setup is not so hard. Once you break it down.
The install of wordpress is really click and go.
The hard part is maintaining your blog and customizing your theme.
