Search Engine Optimmization is probably one of the most confusing parts of our blogging lives.
How do we get our pages to rank on Google? What things do we need to consider and do to achieve this?
And perhaps even more importantly, if you are just starting out:
- What is SEO?
- How do you apply it in a simple way?
I stumbled across this beginners SEO course – Simple Search Engine Optimization from Nathalie Lussier, via Danny at Firepole Marketing’s newsletter recently – he is a huge fan. So with that kind of endorsement, I thought I better check it out.
I am quite familiar with SEO techniques and have posted on some awesome SEO guides and techniques before. The problem is, alot of these guides and authors assume you know what SEO is. Not only that, they don’t really go into detail on how to apply it in a step by step way to your blog. These things you have to figure out for yourself, or by reading 50 different blog posts.
Believe me, I did this myself and it was a pain in the butt. I wish I had had this course when I was starting out!
So if you are new to blogging or website development, don’t really understand SEO and how to apply it, then this course is for you!
The Simple SEO course breakdown
Nathalie’s training is a great beginners SEO course. To keep SEO simple, Nathalie has broken her Simple SEO course down into four simple videos (also available as MP3 if you want to listen on the go!)
- Introduction to Search Engine Optimization
- Onsite SEO
- Offsite SEO
- Nathalies 10 Minutes a day SEO
Introduction to SEO
In this video Nathalie gives a short introduction to SEO, but also get’s right down to business.
The main areas she covers in this video, to give you an idea of the content include:
- What is SEO
- Intro to Nathalie’s simple formula
- Finding and choosing SEO keyword ideas using free tools
- Analysing your competitors keywords
- Adding extra latent keywords to further optimize
When you have finished this video you will already have learnt alot about keywords and techniques to find them. This is a seriously important part of SEO, and puts you in a good position for the next video.
Onsite SEO Optimization
The focus of the second video is Onsite SEO. The idea is that you can first work on your website to optimize SEO, as you have a lot of control of this.
A quick look at the content of this part:
- Your internal links and how to construct them, interlinking posts, structuring links
- Types of links follow vs nofollow how to check them
- Use of Google Webmaster tools including sitemaps and how to exclude pages
- Details on link creation and tweaking (using WordPress as an example)
- Various things you can do to optimize links on your site
At the end of this section you will understand how to optimize your site’s links from posts and pages.
Offsite SEO Optimization
As Nathalie says, this video will show you
How to get other people to do SEO for you
Here she focuses on getting backlinks to your site in a simple way
- What to focus on for social media SEO
- Adding simple backlinks with lots of juice (Page Rank)
- How to check for page rank (free tools and browser extensions)
- Using guest posting and article marketing, as well as video to get backlinks
After this video you will be able to go away and apply some offsite SEO (ie not on your site) and start getting links back to your site. This in turn will mean that your pages will improve in ranking and appear higher on the Search Engine Results Pages (SERP).
SEO in 10 minutes a day
To make all of this even simple, Nathalie goes into detail in this section on how she uses only 10 minutes a day to optimize her site.
I won’t go into details here, as it is her formula, but needless to say it is easy, not time consuming (10 minutes) and habit forming.
At the end, your site will begin to improve rank step by step over time. Which is honestly, the only way SEO really works.
At the end of the course Nathalie gives links to all the tools used throughout her course, most of which are free. The details on how she uses them are of course in the videos themselves.
Summary and Cost
If you are struggling with SEO and need a quick and easy guide, Nathalie’s Simple SEO course is for you. Nathalie breaks it down for anyone to understand and applies Search Engine Optimization principles for the beginner.
Using her techniques and her 10 minutes a day routine, you can easily improve your ranking over time.
The course costs $97 (60 day money back guarantee) which may seem like a lot, but for the value she gives to the SEO beginner, it is money well spent.
I learnt all this stuff myself and it took me months! Take a look, I am sure you will be doing some great SEO in no time.
