Are you having trouble keeping people on your blog? How is your bounce rate?
As hard as you try, people come to your blog, read the post and then leave!!
So how do you keep them?
There are many creative ways to keep readers on your site:-
- nice design
- attention grabbing images
- catchy headlines
- great layout
- more great content to read
But leading them to read another post, and stay longer is not always as easy as it should be.
PostSkin Plugin for WordPress
In my quest for more attention for my posts, I came across PostSkin Plugin by the makers of OptinSkin (Glenn Allsopp of Viper Chill fame).
PostSkin Pluginis all about making your Recent Posts Widget look amazing! It makes it stand out.
I mean come on – take a look at the side-bar right now – you know you want to click it!
Actually you can stick it anywhere on your site, and include any kind of content (links):-
- recent posts
- affiliate links
- important pages
One important question for people buying PostSkin plugin is: how easy is it to use?
Easy as pie.
Configuration can be as simple as a few clicks and a widget install on the sidebar.
You can customize the plugin in so many ways, to meet all your needs.
The first and probably most important decision is the colors.
These can be simply chosen from a menu of pre-set options. Below are three of the most colorful options you can choose.
There are many other options, including some less sexy ones (why would you want to use them!!).
Not only do you have all these color schemes you can change how they are applied with the Basic Style drop down.
Here are the three style options applied to the default color scheme
Layout, Fonts, Style
Above you can see the most common layout – Post Title, Number Comments.
You can alter this to include/exclude other things like:-
- Post descriptions (first words of a post)
- Post Thumbnail (image from the post)
- Post Comments (automatically on, can remove)
On the right you will see I have added thumbnails and descriptions.
In the configuration panel you also have the option to change
- Title Font
- Description Font
- Link Size (including Bold, Italic)
- Text color
- Space around the text
Full Control of Items
If this was not enough control for you, at the bottom of the plugin screen and you will see this.
Looks a bit daunting, but it basically gives you full control over the colors of each item and the font.
This is also where the changes can be made for your own content – detailed below.
Add Your Own Content
The last option you have is Adding your own Content. To get this – uncheck the Auto-adjust content to popularity.
Then, further down the page you can fully control the links, images, descriptions and so forth.
This ultimately gives you the ability to put in your own content instead of the popular posts.
Full details on how to use this section are detailed in Glenn’s video at 3:50 minutes.
